I thought this could be of interest, it is not about organic food but still :
This is a picture my Dad took today.
It is in german so I explain it to the non-german speakers.
My Dad went to the supermarket in order to get Poultry sausages and picked these up..
Labeled as poultry sausages... only that they actually contain 67% pork and 16% turkey...
I can recommend a great page when it comes to stuff like that, I follow them for ages now as they are the VOICE of customers that aren´t generally listened to...if you have got some time , it will be worth it !

All going well...
I made my bread yesterday, now we just have to find out what my two boys think about it...
Its a little "different" from white or brown toast ;-)
I meant to start with some sprouts today but unfortunately I had a little "accident"
it involves a huge jar that burst while holding about a liter of water...
So will have to get a new jar first and start again.
I am a woman on a mission.
I am thinking about a nice herb garden for us and about some fruit and veg we could grow in pots in our backyard...pots because I really don´t feel like digging and its so hard to find volunteers for that!!!
I signed up at this : http://www.giyireland.com
Loads of people with the same ideas and HOPEFULLY full off people that can give some advice!
We had our own carrots, beans, radish, tomatoes and strawberries last year and the least I would like to do is, do them again... the carrots tasted like REAL carrots...the taste was just something else.
What I like about it, is that my son is involved in the whole process...so much more exciting than doing our shopping in the supermarket.
I made Pizza today and the bread and I tried Tofu... not to bad...but I really need to find a butcher( locally) ..that will be my mission for the next week... its hard work , when you don´t want your meat having traveled half the world but just from where you are.

new day new bread .. i hope !
Yesterday I cooked our first ALL organic vegetable soup... YUM !
It actually felt better giving that soup to my son!
He had a organic lollipop as well.
I got no complaints..he only wanted another one!
One of them costs 50 cents, which means he really will just get one a day.
And after all, that is a good thing anyway...
The list of ingredients I copied from a random bag of Lolly's is :
"Sugar,Dextrose ,Glucose Syrup ,Vegetable Oil ,Acidity Regulators: Citric Acid, Tartaric Acid ,Stearic Acid ,Modified Starch ,Cornflour ,Flavourings ,Gelling Agent: Gelatine ,Sodium Bicarbonate ,Magnesium Stearate ,Anti-caking Agent: Magnesium Carbonate ,Emulsifier: Glycerol Mono Stearate ,Colours: Anthocyanin, Copper Chlorophyllin, Curcumin, Lutein, Paprika, Titanium Dioxide"
The price for them is just under 2 Euro.. for just under 250 gr a bag!
NOW the list of ingredients of my yesterday purchased ones :
"organic fruit juice"
( can you see, hat I mean, about feeling better giving it to my child ... ??? )
I am trying to figure out, what these things actually are .. might take me a while .. i didn´t "do" university.. I only became a nurse...
Today I will bake bread for us.
You might think that I possibly might have to much time on my hands, but I actually just could not find organic bread in the shops...
I will keep you posted!

Todays Shopping
I went to the Dublin Food Food Co-Op today
I liked it there, since the staff was very friendly and supportive.
They are a bit more pricy then the discounter, but they offer a membership and you could end up with 15 % discount on your shopping.
That might be an option for us, but then we might just stick to the discounter and get the ingredients they don´t have of the CO-OP...
only time will show.
Lidl was amazing ! We actually got loads of stuff there!
The Organic Range ist pretty good and most of the prices are pretty reasonable as well...
Organic Pasta for 79 cent!

we are going organic
Right,
Did you ever watch Food.inc?
No?
Well DO IT!
Maybe not just after eating and maybe not with children around, but you should!
I thought, I didn´t need an eye-opener, since I thought, I was pretty aware of what is going on
when it comes to our food.
I did see programms on TV about tomatoes growing in nurishing liquid and sponges rather than propper compost...but hey... they still taste pretty ok .. for like 99 cent for 6 of them, right?
or cettle.. I knew, there is a more comforting way for the the old cow...but then i thought, so what???
they re going to die anyway, right?
well...right and wrong.
I bought tofu today!
I am not turning vegetetarien but I didn´t feel like eating stress hormones and I just didn´t feel like chicken either...on the other hand - I could do with some antibiotics, since I have a massive cold.
There are plenty of things I bought organic in the first place, like pasta and chopped tomatoes,
sometimes flour and butter.
So, on todays list was Pasta,Passata,Pizza Base,Milk,Cheese,Yoghurt,Flour,Sugar and so on and on...
and Tofu.
That was the first step, just getting the basics and start ..
WHAT am I going to do with my Blog now?
I am letting you know, how we are getting on. How it tastes , how we are doing with our grocery bills
and how far we will go... I am thinking about having like a few chicken out the back!
I hope to keep up with all my "funny" ideas...and post them all, as well as links and tips and pictures!
